First Languages Australia is working in various ways to support and mentor Australia’s bright young language champions. The Young Champions program was established to encourage, promote and mentor young language champions who are keen to grow their involvement with their community language programs.
Since this time young champions have been nominated to participate in events such as; Puliima Languages and Technology Forum, Kani Waiburra: Queensland’s State Languages Meeting, WANALA conferences and events, and the inaugural Indigenous Languages Conference held in collaboration with the 12th Pacific Arts Festival.
First Languages Australia are fostering internships between young champions and language centres. This will see language centres offer a one-week placement to a young champion, during which the student will be given hands-on experience and mentoring in different aspects of the work carried out by the language centre.
First Languages Australia has a strong commitment to fostering the engagement and enthusiasm of young language champions nationally.
