Fay Green of Walgett recieves NSW Seniors Week Award

Fay says the next project in her sites is setting up a Language Program at St Joseph’s Catholic School where she works as an Aboriginal Liason Officer. We wish her the greatest success in this endeavour.

It seems Walgett’s senior citizens are showing no signs of slowing down, with two local residents receiving 2010 NSW Seniors Week Achievement Awards.

Mrs Fay Green was named as one of the State Award Winners at an Achievement Award Ceremony held in Sydney last month during NSW Seniors Week.

Mrs Green was nominated thanks to her years of dedication educating Walgett’s youth.

she completed an Early Childhood Course before embarking on her current role as an Aboriginal Liaison Officer at St Joseph’s Catholic School.

“Education is my passion, I want our children to have the opportunities that I never had.”

With her two nieces the first Indigenous students ever allowed attend St Josephs, she said the school had come a long way integrating Indigenous student and that her role involved empowering these students to make the most of their educational opportunities.

Mrs Green, who has lived in Walgett her whole life, was also instrumental in setting up a homework centre and breakfast program and said the latest project in her sites was setting up a language class at St Joseph’s.
